Today, we're going to teach you some fun facts about Salmon

And a brand new dance

오늘, 우리가 너에게 연어와 새로운 춤(연어춤)에 대해 몇가지 재밌는 것을 가르쳐 줄께

걔들은(연어들) 며칠 동안 바뀌지, 산란후 우리들은 죽어

When I first did the salmon all the people just laughed

내가 처음 연어춤을 췄을 때 사람들은 그냥 웃었어

They looked around and stood like I was on crack

사람들은 둘러 보고 내가 발이 틈에 걸린것처럼 서 있었지

I heard somebody say out loud

나는 누군가 외치는 것을 들었어

"What the fuck is that? This niggar's dancing like a fish" while he's doing the snap

"저건 머야? 검둥이녀석 춤이 물고기 같은데" 반면 녀석은 꺽기 춤을 추면서

But the more I kept doing it, the more they were feeling it

하지만 내가 춤을 계속할수록, 사람들은 점점 춤에 매료되었어

Then I heard some bitches saying killing it"

그때 나는 몇몇 년들이(절대 나의 의도가 아님) 저춤 죽인다고 말하는 것을 들었어

By the end of the night, everyone was on my team

그리고 모든 클럽원들은 연어가 시냇가를 오르는 것 같은 춤을 추고 있었지

Most of our friends find home waters by sense of smell, which is even more keen than that of a dog or a bear.

내 친구들 대부분은(연어들) 후각으로 고향을 찾아, 후각은 개나 곰보다 더 예민하지

My family also rely on ocean currents, tides, the gravitational pull of the moon.

내 가족들도 해류와 조수, 달의 인력에 의지해 살지

Polluted water can kill both baby salmon that are developing and the adult salmon that are on their way to spawn.

오염된 물이 자라날 새끼 연어들과 산란하러 가는 어른 연어들 모두를 죽일수 있어

*주요 확인 어구

 

-Put your hands to the side 여기서의 문제는 side이다. side를 옆으로 볼 것인지 옆구리로 볼것 인지 아니면 손바닥의 면으로 볼 것인지에 따라 해석이 달라진다. 이 곡에서는 연어라는 물고기의 춤이므로 우리가 통상 고기 흉내를 낼 때 손바닥을 붙이는 것을 생각하는게 적당한 듯 하다

-silly as it seems 보어가 앞으로 나와 도치된 문장인데 형용사 말고도 명사가 앞에 올수도 있는데 그때는 a 등의 관사를 쓰지 않는다. 그리고 해석은 though나 inspite of, despite~ 로도 바꿀수가 있다 그래서 해석에는 ~지만 이나 ~에도 불구하고 등이 첨가 되어진다.

->Though it seems (like) silly 바보처럼 보이지만

ex) professor as he was -> Though he was a professor

-They change round a couple of days 여기서 round의 뜻을 안다면 영어공부 좀 했다고 말을 할수 있겠다 ㅋ round 기간이 나올경우 전치사로 '동안'이라는 의미를 갖는다

-(I생략) stood like I was on crack 여기서 like는 접속사이고 뒤에 완전한 문장이 나오고 있다.

 

-peep 주로 가까운 사람을 뜻한다

 

-the more I kept doing it, the more they were feeling it  : the 비교급 ~, the 비교급 구문 으로 여기서는 비교급 뒤에 문장이 나와 있지만 동사가 생략되고 주어만 비교되는 형태로도 자주 쓰인다.

ex)the larger box (is), the more expensinve price (is) : 상자가 더 클 수록 가격이 더 비싸다.

-a couple of days 문맥에 따라 이틀, 이삼일, 며칠등 다양하게 해석 된다.

 

-Most of our friends find home waters by sense of smell, which is even more key than that of a dog or a bear. 여기서 which는 앞서의 sense of smell를 가르키고 있고 even은 비교급을 강조하고 있다. 나온김에 비교급을 강조하는 것을 살펴보면 다음과 같다

*a lot/ a good deal/ even / far / many / much / somewhat / all the more ~

 

-keen 1날카로운 2예민한 민감한 3빈틈없는 4열중하는 열심인 5훌륭한 멋진

 

 

-Fish pay attention to the moon?! Wow. Who knew?  여기서 pay가 pays로 안쓰인 것을 보아 fish가 복수임을 알 수 있다

-Polluted water can kill both baby salmon (that are developing) and the adult salmon (that are on their way to spawn.) 사실 영어는 우리말보다 친절한 구석이 많다 영어에 수식이 많다는 것은 그만큼 우리말처럼 툭튀어나오는 법이 없다는 말과 같다. 즉 영어에서 무언가 새로운 단어들이 나오면 뒤에는 으례 그것들을 설명하기 위해 관계사나 to 부정사들을 사용해 설명되어지기 마련이다. ()부분이 각각 baby samon과 adult salmon을 수식하고 있다.

 

-give~ up for  ~를 ~에게 양보하다 ~를 위해 포기하다 

-give it up for  이곡에서는 문맥상 위의 뜻보다는 갈채나 박수를 보내주다라고 쓰인 듯 하다.
